VanBlaricom Project Updates (R/GD-1a, b)
Work to Date
The research group is continuing to collect monthly photo data and samples (e.g., small cores and large excavations) at five sites (two planting sites and three harvest sites) in southern Puget Sound. Currently, graduate students and staff are sorting, identifying and quantifying samples at the UW School of Aquatic & Fishery Sciences. Extensive additional fieldwork is being planned for April 2009 to coincide with the return of daytime extreme low tides. The work will be a coordinated effort between researchers at UW and University of Maryland and will include coordinated sampling of chemical and biological characteristics. Senior personnel are also preparing presentations for Washington Sea Grant-sponsored events on February 26th (Sound Science) and March 3rd (17th Conference for Shellfish Growers).
