WSGP's New Oyster History Exhibit

Produced with funding from the Puget Sound Water Quality Action Team, Washington Sea Grant Program's new photo-illustrated exhibit offers a wealth of information about the romantic past, exciting present and promising future of the oyster industry in the Pacific Northwest.

The traveling exhibit is the newest part of a 30-year effort by Washington Sea Grant Program to support and promote shellfish farming and other sustainable uses of the ocean and its resources. Other components of the project include the book Heaven on the Half Shell: The Story of the Northwest's Love Affair with the Oyster (copyright 2001, Graphic Arts Center Publishing Company) and the award-winning Oyster StewWeb site, with its home page at http://www.wsg.washington.edu/oysterstew/oystermain.html.

The full itinerary for the traveling exhibit is currently being finalized. To book the exhibit for your local museum or visitor center, contact David G. Gordon at 206.685.8191 or davidg@u.washington.edu.
