Outreach

Seabird Avoidance Information for Alaska Fishermen

Southern Seabird Solutions

Promotes the adoption of fishing practices in the southern hemisphere that avoid seabird mortality.

Albert Times

Newsletter written to promote, and help resolve, issues surrounding seabird interactions with deep sea fishing vessels.  The information given is directed to all parties interested in saving seabirds, but mostly for vessel operators and fishermen in general.

Smart Gear

Competition to inspire innovative, practical, cost-effective ideas that allow fishermen to "fish smarter" - to better target their intended catch while reducing bycatch.

Industry (Alaska)

At-Sea Processors Association (APA)

Trade association representing trawl catcher/processor vessels that participate principally in the Alaska pollock fishery and west coast Pacific whiting fishery. APA has participated in Washington Sea Grant research to reduce seabird-trawl interactions.

North Pacific Longline Association (NPLA)

Trade association representing longline catcher/processor vessels that participate principally in the Alaska cod fishery. NPLA has been a critical partner to Washington Sea Grant during research to reduce seabird-longline interactions.
