Establishing the University Sound Partnership
Educating the public is key to the health and recovery of Puget Sound. Governor Gregoire’s 2005 charge to a high-level task force to develop a strategy for protecting and restoring the health of Puget Sound relies heavily on public support, involvement and understanding.
The University Sound Partnership will draw on the strengths of the state’s two leading research universities — the University of Washington and Washington State University — to catalyze local responses for protecting Puget Sound.
Collaborations among Washington Sea Grant Marine Advisory Services and Washington State University Extension staff will yield many measurable results, including a trained 10,000-member volunteer network of stewards and educators throughout the Sound.
