Experience and Education
Before joining Washington Sea Grant in 2008, Troy spent four years with Oregon State University and NOAA Fisheries’ Northwest Fisheries Science Center, based at the Point Adams Research Station in Hammond, Oregon. In that role, he was involved in research on the distribution and movements of seabirds and the trophic interactions among seabirds and fishes. Troy is now focused on testing methods to reduce the incidental mortality of seabirds in pelagic longlines. Troy received a bachelor’s degree in Fisheries Science from Oregon State University and a master’s in Fishery Sciences from Oregon State University.
Current Activities
- Collaborative research with industry, developing seabird avoidance techniques for pelagic longline fisheries.
- Outreach programs to encourage the adoption of seabird avoidance technologies in worldwide fisheries.
